Grass-Fed Beef
Through a partnership with the McKern Ranch, we are offering wholves, halves, and quarters of grass-fed beef year round. These cows have been ranging in the diverse pastures, fields, and forests of Stevens County, and are not fed grain, hormones, or intra-feed antibiotics. The ladies (and fella or two) really know how to get around and can be counted on to find the best spring grass and search out the newly-tendered fall grass after a rain.
Since we run a closed herd (we don't buy animals from other herds and bring them in) we have an intimate knowledge of our mother cows, heifers, steers, and calves. An ear tag is as likely to say "Jerry" or "Dot" as it is to have a standard number assigned to the cow.
We like to say we are raising "turn-of-the-century beef" because our cows would fit right in with the free-range chuckwagon scene. The result of this kind of management is tenderloin steaks that melt in your mouth, hamburger that doesn't leave a puddle of grease in the skillet, and pot roasts that are reminiscent of Sundays when every really did take a break.
